Sugaring

Hair removal the natural and gentle way

What is Sugaring?

Sugaring is an ancient hair removal technique that has been refined over the years, one of the most effective and gentle hair removal methods available on the market.
Sugaring is a 100% natural product, which consists of lemon, water, and sugar and contains no unnecessary allergens. The ingredients are all heated together until it reaches a candy-like consistency. Once it cools it's applied directly to the skin. This mixture is much more natural and environmentally-friendly than wax, making it a desirable method of hair removal.
In addition, the sugaring is water-soluble, so no residues are left on the skin, you can easily wipe them off with a damp towel.
The sugar loosens the body hair in the growth direction of the hair and thus gets the whole roots and leaves a silky soft skin. Using the right techniques by pulling the hair in the direction of the hair growth prevents the break off the hair strands and minimizes the risk of inward hair growth. At the same time, the skin is gently scrubbed and removes dead skin cells. When the body hair is removed from the root, no stubble appears immediately the next day and you can enjoy a smooth and hairless skin.

What happens during the appointment?

To start, our specialist will cleanse the area and a powder will be applied to protect the skin and make hairs stand out.
Then the application of the sugaring paste will begin and the technician will use a single ball of paste, applying it against the grain of hair growth and then lightly tugging in the opposite direction.
After the sugaring is complete, our specialist will apply a serum or rejuvenating lotion/ oil to hydrate, soothe the skin.

What should you do before your appointment?

To make sure that your appointment runs smoothly, there are a few things you can do in preparation:
1. Make sure the hair is at least 1/4 inch long almost the size of grain of rice, and no longer then 3/4 inch otherwise you won't be able to get sugared and you'll have to reschedule.
2. A few days before your appointment, lightly exfoliate with a buffing mitt or washcloth to get some dead skin cells out of the way. This will help prevent stray hairs from getting left behind.
3. Avoid tanning or applying retinoid creams on the area for at least 24 to 48 hours before your appointment. 4. The day of, minimize your caffeine and alcohol intake to prevent your pores from tightening.
5. Prior to the appointment, dress in loose, cotton clothing for maximum comfort.

What about after the treatment?

For 24 hours after sugaring or waxing, keep in mind that your skin might be more sensitive. Avoid direct contact with the sun, such as tanning. And avoid hot baths, further exfoliation, and working out. All of these could aggravate the skin.

How long will the results last?

It really depends on how fast and thick your hair grows back.
After your first appointment, sugaring will last around 3 weeks. If you keep regular appointments, you may find that the process becomes less painful and that your hair grows back slower over time. If you don't keep up with your appointment schedule, though, the hair growth cycle will get disrupted and you'll have to start from scratch.

Lets talk about ingrown hair...

Ingrown hairs occur when one of these two things happens:
1. A hair curls and grows back into the skin instead of coming out of the pore, this is the most common.
2. The hair grows sideways into the skin due to hardened, dead skin cells on the surface.
They tend to create little bumps and are prone to infection.
Ingrown hairs is often caused by cutting or shaving hair too closely to the skin. But there are several other causes of ingrown hairs. If your hair is curly, it may have the tendency to re-enter the skin after it has been cut.
Other than that, hair removal technique, like waxing, can also cause ingrown hairs. How does it happen? Our hairs, in fact, have a lining that properly guides the hair up to the surface of the skin and out a hole that allows the hair to actually exit the body. When you do waxing, you pull the hair out in the opposite direction of hair growth very rapidly and that rapid pulling actually disrupts this very important lining. Then, when the hair starts to regrow, it doesn't have that lining to guide it anymore and it no longer has a way to get out of the skin.

How Do You Get Rid of Ingrown Hairs?

Instead of attacking your skin with a razor or pick, try an exfoliating scrub and prevention hair removal technique like body sugaring. Not only sugaring can lead to permanent hair reduction, but it also remove ingrown hairs by lifting up dead skin cells and dirt. This helps clear up the mouth of the follicle which helps your hairs grow normally. When you do your sugaring treatments every three to four weeks, it will eventually weaken your hair follicles. In no time, your skin will feel smoother, plus you'll have a longer "hair-free" period. Ingrown hairs are a common complication associated with any kind of hair removal method. To prevent an ingrown hair, start by using body scrub 2 / 3 times a week between two body sugaring treatment. This will get rid of dead skin cells, which can help the hair point back out of the skin. It also leaves your skin super smooth and moisturized. The best thing about sugaring is, you'll see fewer hairs all together and ingrowns are included.
